Empowering Garrison Girls (EGGs) is a nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Dihema Longman, affectionately known as the "Mother Hen," to empower girls from Jamaica's Garrison communities through education, exposure, and encouragement. Inspired by the belief that every girl deserves the opportunity to reach her full potential, EGGs was established to provide the support, resources, and opportunities needed to help young women overcome barriers and build brighter futures.
Through mentorship, educational support, leadership development, career exploration, and meaningful experiences, EGGs equips participants with the confidence, skills, and opportunities needed to succeed in school, pursue their aspirations, and become leaders in their families, communities, and beyond.
EGGs Mission
Our mission is to empower girls from Jamaica's Garrison communities by providing opportunities that foster academic achievement, personal growth, leadership development, and lifelong success through our three core pillars:
- Education: To promote retention in school, financial assistance is provided to the participants while enrolled in secondary school.
- Exposure: Exposing the participants to preparatory and informational resources helps to improve their readiness for life beyond secondary school.
- Encouragement: By providing mentoring and networking opportunities for the participants within and outside the EGGs program, they are encouraged to stay the course and envision life beyond the daily challenges faced in their communities.
